About Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)

The STANDARDS ORGANISATION OF NIGERIA (SON) is the apex standardization body in Nigeria.

SON’s governing body is known as the Nigerian Standards Council. This is the Policy making body for supervising the administration and financial management of the Organisation. The Director General of the Organisation is the Chief Executive whose responsibilities revolve around the day-to-day administration of the Organisation within the broad guidelines approved by the Council.

Functions of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)

1. They conduct tests and also ensure that industrial products meet specific requirements that are deemed safe for public consumption and usage.
2. They ensure that products are registered, marked as safe in the country.
3. They distribute standard samples around the country.
4. They have the responsibility of establishment of standard laboratories all over Nigeria for the purpose of carrying out most of their functions
5. They establish quality assurance, certify certain products safe.
